MLB Winning/Losing Streaks

So I was looking at the standings today for maybe the third time all year and noticed how bad the Mariners are. Well, that's beside the point. My point is, while looking at the standings, I saw that the biggest streaks, whether they were winning or losing, were only three games.

The Marlins are on a three-game win streak and the Pirates have lost three straight. Every other team in the majors has either won or lost only one or two consecutive games.

I'm not sure if this is common for baseball nowadays or if I caught the standings at a bad time.
