10 year award- Best Looking

The next 10 year award goes to the best looking manager throughout the decade. This could be who was the best looking in eighth grade, ninth grade, college, now or for the longest period of time, whether it be from a girl's point of view or from a guy's. If anyone wants to get some girls in on this vote to possibly make it more accurate, feel free, although I'm sure we are all good judges of handsomeness. Also, former managers are included in this vote so we might have some sleepers.

Power Rankings

Supreme:
1) TJ

TJ reigns on top of my rankings after going 19-1 in the last two weeks.

Meat Lovers:
2) Adrian
3) Kurt
4) Drew

Adrian continues his consistant strong play with a tie against Kurt. Neither of these managers have lost a week thus far. Drew comes in 4th for riding in on a 2 week losing streak.

Pepperoni and Mushroom:
5) Ben
6) Alex

Ben inches above Alex despite his worse record due to greater consistancy

Vegetarian:
7) Richie
8) Colin
9) Jarrett

These owners are far back, but a strong week or two will have them right in the thick of things. Jarrett is looking to recover from his dreadful week and reassert himself among play-off contenders.

Plain Cheese:
10) James

James is far back, after a terrible 0-10 week. Definitely not the start the champion was looking for.

Week 7 History Made

Week 7 in the Diamond Dynasty saw some incredible history.   Prior to week 7 of the 2011 season there had been eight 10-0 victories in 9 seasons.  Week 7 had two, to bring that total into double-digits.  Of those ten 10-0 shutouts, TJ now has 4, and Alex recorded his 3rd.  Jarrett, James, and Adrian each have one.

What does this project for the remainder of the season for these clubs?

Alex shut out Colin 10-0 in 2004 and Adrian in 2010, finishing in the money both times but not winning a Chalice.  In seasons where TJ has recorded a 10-0 he has lost in the first round of the playoffs.  This happened twice, as he shut out two teams in 2004 (Paul and Jarrett.)

Paul and Jarrett finished in last and second to last, respectively, and only 2 of the previous 8 teams to lose by this margin had made the playoffs.  Kurt and Colin were the two managers, both of which finished third.

Only one previous manager won 10-0 and went on to win the championship, with Adrian taking it home in 2008.  James and Alex have finished second.

In another intriguing week 7 matchup, two undefeated managers went head to head.  Neither Adrian nor Kurt had lost a week in 2011, and battled relentlessly until the final game.  Kurt needed 5 home runs on Sunday to take a 5-4 lead, but a run from Kevin Youkilis on Sunday Night Baseball broke a tie in runs and leveled the week at 5-5, where it would end.   Adrian heads into a matchup against Alex, fresh off a 10-0 victory, in hopes of continuing his undefeated streak.  Kurt faces off with Drew in week 8, another team at the top of the standings.  Despite failing to lose in the centennial season, Kurt still sits in 4th after tying 4 of the 7 weeks thus far.

Forecast for Monday, May 23

What a historic Mid-May week we had.  As the week winds down with the Red Sox leading the Cubs heading into the eighth inning, we already have several matchups decided and a few things left to settle.  It is a historic night of twos, as two teams that have yet to lose this year battle until the final out.  Two teams try and close out historic shut-outs.  Two stories are a-brewin'.

Check in tomorrow for a historic update including power rankings, race for 100 wins and the Diamond Dynasty Plaque for Regular Season Betterness, conclusions to historic matchups and more!

Random thoughts

Congrats to me for winning Diamond Dynasty's scummiest manager. I didn't see it coming...
Just to let everyone know, I beat Richie and Russell yesterday in wiffleball. Richie, I'm just rubbing it in your face because of all the smack you were talking a few weeks ago.
I apologize for not having an award this week, there will be one next week. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions. I'm also really addicted now to D.R.U.G.S and Freelance Whales. I'm in last place and I hate it. I heard Justin Adams went to the Westwood prom last night. Also, I have a brand new idea of something I'm gonna be writing about. Whether it's gonna be a blog of its own or on this, I'm not sure yet. I won't spoil it but I will say, you will look at fantasy baseball a little differently.

4th 10 year award- Scummiest Manager

Feel free to interoperate this award any way you would like, whether it's extreme use of free agency (myself), failure to understand what's going on during the draft (Jarrett and Aaron Hill and Adrian and Chase Utley), tanking at the end of the season (Colin and Adrian), not paying (everyone), not coming to league meetings (TJ), just being a dick, coming in last every year, not having funny team names, not writing on the message board, drafting Dice K, you get the picture.
Obviously the nominees for this award are every member of the DD so vote for who you think has been the scummiest throughout the decade.

Week 5 Power Rankings and Awards

Sitting Pretty:
1) Drew
2) Adrian

Prime Contenders:
3) Kurt
4) TJ

Still in it, though kind of shitty:
5) Jarrett
6) Ben
7) Alex
8) Richie

Can still right the ship:
9) Colin
10) James

As you can see, once again our league has developed into tiers. Drew, fresh off of a 8-2 week, jumps Adrian even though he trails him by half a game.
Kurt and TJ are neck and neck, though still are a little ways back from the top.
One game is all that separates our “Shitty” tier, with two playoff-spots on the line. Who’s gunna pull away and clinch a spot is anyone’s guess, but with plenty of season left to play, this is shaping up for another excellent season.
Colin and James pull up in last, though they are only 3/4.5 games out. Colin leaps James in the rankings due to his strong week, while James is hurt by his 2-8 week.

Hitter of the Week: Adrian Gonzalez (0.321 BA, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 7 R)
Pitcher of the Week: Fausto Carmona (15 INN, 12 K, ER, 0.600 ERA, 1.000 WHIP, W)
Pick-up of the Week- Fausto Carmona
Team Name of the Week: Rusty Trumbo
Manager of the Week: Drew Donovan

Lame week for names. Kurt wins with Rusty Trumbo, a funny, but not laugh-out-loud name. Drew wins the manager of the week award with his 8-2 victory over James. Carmona wins Pitcher of the week, beating out Justin Verlander and Clay Buchholz for the honor. A spot starter for two teams, he also collected pick-up of the week. Adrian Gonzalez mashed all week, and earned HOTW honors.

Official MS Paint A Yahoo headline contest!

Since you guys suck at emailing me questions, and I go above and beyond the call of duty to try to entertain your asses, I came up with a new idea: "MS Paint a Yahoo headline contest". Read them, let your mind work wonders, send me your submissions and Ill post the best. Here's my sample submission for "Ben Francisco fading, Domonic Brown Raking" (http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog/roto_arcade/post/Ben-Francisco-fading-Domonic-Brown-raking?urn=fantasy-wp2130). Come on, you guys are a bunch of creative assholes, lets see what you've got!

DIamond Dynasty Logo Contest!

We have been saying it for years, and now it is time to act.  The Diamond Dynasty has been rapidly gaining popularity and national recognition, it is time to ride this success into the future with a new logo!  I can not say enough about the logo that Adrian created for us back in High School, and it will never be forgotten.  It will be put on all of our retro apparel and it will be showcased at Turn Back The Clock Night's, but as we are now weeks into our 10th season it is time for a change.

So what does this mean?  It means it is logo contest time!  Everyone submit your new logo designs by June 1, 2011 and we will post them all (just the good ones if people are being douchebags) and take a vote on the new logo.  The winning submission will win a $10 giftcard to the Dunkin Donuts of your choice!  Submissions may be emailed to ksgottschalk@gmail.com and must be in the form of a logo to qualify.

Happy Monday

I know it's going to be a long year when I lose to Adrian and Drew, let alone in consecutive weeks by scores of 7-2 and 8-2 respectively. I heard Nick Skvir is getting married.
Alex, remember that free block when Ms. Witzburg went to a meeting and we left early for lunch and someone told on us and we got detention?
Also, for the millionth time, I never threw your hat overboard, but I did steal that ball from you in the bleachers.
Congrats to Richie and Moises Alou for winning the third 10 year award for best last round pick of all time. That means all three winners thus far have come from the great year of 2004 when we had league greats Jason, Paul and Chuck, and maybe Kyle, I can't remember.
Also, Adrian better run shirtless on multiple occasions around the Westwood track during practice and on his own.
Jews, Amoula Hamdon.
Next award is midre cummings in the next few days.

3rd 10-year award- Best last-round pick

You know the saying "the last rounds don't matter"? Well they really don't, and they few good picks we did have in the last round over the years, we ended up dropping (Ben, Jarrett last year).

I propose from now on, we make the last round about humor, not like our draft needs any more, but just to add a few extra laughs. Everyone can pick up who they want that night following the draft, or heck, keep Rocky Biddle's 6 saves.

Having said that, here are they 10 best last-round picks in DD history.

2010- Matt Latos (Ben) 14 W 189 K 2.92 ERA 1.08 WHIP

2010- Buster Posey (Jarrett) 18 HR 67 RBI .305 AVG- ROY

2008- Jermaine Dye (Alex) 96 R 34 HR 96 RBI .292 AVG

2008- Scott Baker (Colin) 11 W 141 K 3.45 ERA 1.18 WHIP

2007- John Maine (Ben) 15 W 180 K 3.91 ERA 1.27 WHIP

2006- Adam LaRoche (Jarrett) 89 R 32 HR 90 RBI .290 BA

2004- Moises Alou (Richie) 106 R 39 HR 106 RBI .293 AVG

2004- J.D. Drew (Chuck) 118 R 31 HR 93 RBI 12 SB .305 AVG

2003- Carlos Lee (Adrian) 100 R 31 HR 113 RBI 18 SB .291 BA

2003- Juan Pierre (Jarrett) 100 R 1 HR 41 RBI 65 SB .305 AVG

Week 3 Power rankings and Awards

1. Adrian
2. Drew
3. Kurt
4. Tj
5. Jarrett
6. Richie
7. James
8. Ben
9. Alex
10. Colin

Adrian and Drew are dominating, Alex and Colin are sucking. A bunch of others are doing mediocre, give or take a couple of wins. Booorrrrinnnggg.

Hitter of the Week- Ben Zobrist (11-25, 0.440 BA, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 8 R, 2 SB)
Pitcher of the Week- Zach Britton (12 INN, 3 K, 1.500 ERA, 1.250 WHIP, 2 W)
Pick-up of the Week- Justin Smoak
Manager of the Week- TJ Geers
Team Name- Morales Low

Zobrist had a fantastic week, utterly dominating. His week helped to pace Jarrett to a victory in all 5 offensive categories. Zach Britton had a great week, and continues to have an excellent start to his season. His 2 wins helped Alex earn a tie in that category, and was pretty much the only positive thing he had going for him last week (Life included). Justin Smoak was an excellent pick-up for James, as it gave him both another Mariner (he is one of their 13 fans, yay!) and a solid major leaguer with great potential. TJ bent Alex over last week, and dominated him for 8 wins and 2 ties. Alex refused comment, suggesting that he may still be gagged from the S&M rape that took place. Jarrett continued his streak of excellent team names with "Morales Low". It was so good that Kurt felt the need to announce his plagiarism to the DD world. Yay for honesty!
